During our December IB League of Parents Meeting, a very unique opportunity for our IB Students was presented. Ms. Elspeth Christie, a Learning Specialist from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, will come and provide a one-day workshop on the Cornerstones of Academic Success. At this January 9th workshop, students will learn how to maximize their efficiency in learning and studying. Students will participate in engaging activities designed to increase their self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and self-management skills. They will also discover their learning strengths and weaknesses, and learn tested techniques to improve memory, concentration, time management and study skills. According to Ms. Christie, recent research demonstrates that organization, time management and optimism are better predictors of student success than IQ. With this in mind, students attending this workshop will learn not only concrete skills to apply to their schoolwork, but also will be given a framework to reflect on broader issues of their own personal development.
